Microsoft Releases Flawed Cumulative Update 6 for Exchange 2013

Microsoft has released Update 6 (CU6) for Exchange Server 2013 late last month, but is not without problems, especially for organizations to maintain hybrid implementations.

The problems were reported by Microsoft Most Valuable Professional (MVP) with Microsoft responding quickly enough in some cases. An Exchange MVP, referred to a problem with the central administration of the Exchange after hybrid CU6 application scenarios. A scenario of "hybrid" refers to the implementation of Exchange Server 2013 on the local side by side with a public cloud email services, such as Exchange Online in Office 365.

Guillet recommend flat hybrid Exchange users should not install Exchange Server 2013 CU6, said it is not possible to revert to a previous state afterwards.

With CU6 installed, the Exchange Administration Center does not work when trying to create new mailboxes in Office 365 services also, cannot move mailboxes to Office 365 after applying CU6. You cannot "instantly create archive mailboxes" with CU6 installed, Guillet said in a blog entry on August 29.

Microsoft has posted a script on 1 September to address these issues in Exchange Management Center CU6.Designed after application to run on systems with this particular problem. However, the script assumes that Exchange is installed on the same logical drive for Windows, Microsoft Exchange MVP, and Tony Redmond. An improved version of the script that checks the Exchange installation path is available, Redmond said. This enhanced version of the script was devised by Microsoft MVP Michel de Rooij, Microsoft also noted that Exchange Server 2013, users may experience a problem with the database failover CU6 installed.

The problem only occurs when Exchange Server 2013 coexist with Exchange Server 2007 When the update server that is running Exchange Server 2013 tries to authenticate the user, through a mechanism that is not understood by Exchange Server 2007 Thus, the Exchange Server 2013 blocking the process of the store and failover base data to a different server. Coexistence with Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 is not affected by this problem.

Microsoft support article points to a solution that is available to resolve the problem of failover database. However, the organizations involved have yet to contact the Services Microsoft Support to obtain the hotfix is not available online.

CU6 corrects a number of errors, including the error problem Assistant Update Rollup 5 hybrid configuration also greatly expands the boundaries of the public folder hierarchy in Exchange Server folders 2013-100000. A problem that unauthorized users were able to send messages to public folders, regardless of authorization status is also addressed in CU6. Microsoft explains the details, adding that the expansion of the public folder hierarchy is the "first round of investments" in this sense. It is also expected that the release of the public folder distribution "in the coming weeks."
